[BaseCamp] I don't see any projects in the Projects dropdown

I don't see any projects in the Projects dropdown

This can occur because of several reasons.  We'll only be covering the most common of them here, which are:

  • Chronicle has not been restarted after a settings change
  • Account Name is incorrect
  • Login is incorrect
  • SSL is required but not enabled
  • API Access not enabled
  • Minimum requirements for Chronicle not met
  • You are using an old version of Chronicle
  • Unable to reach the Basecamp server
  • There are no active projects

Chronicle has not been restarted after a settings change

After changing certain settings in Chronicle, you must restart it to cause Chronicle to attempt to reconnect.  These are Account Name and Login.  A future release will either correct or document this requirement.

Account Name is incorrect

A common mistake is to enter the complete Basecamp address into this field (e.g. https://example.basecamphq.com).  You should not attempt to enter the whole URL in here, as this will cause an error.  Please enter only the account name portion (in the above example, this is "example").  Please note that if you change your Basecamp URL, you'll need to update this setting to the first part of the URL.

Login is incorrect

There is a known issue which we intend to correct in a future patch in which logins and password with extra spaces on the end are not trimmed to remove the spaces, and Basecamp rejects the login. Please check and make sure that your username and password do not have extra spaces on the beginning or end in Chronicle settings.

SSL is required but not enabled

Some Basecamp users prefer to use SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) to access their account for their security. If you have this setting enabled, you need to make sure that "Require Secure Connection" is set to "True" in Chronicle, otherwise it will try to use regular HTTP which will fail. To check whether your Basecamp account is set to require SSL, log in to Basecamp and check the Settings tab.

API Access not enabled

Chronicle requires the Basecamp API to be enabled. To enable to Basecamp API, login to Basecamp and accept the API terms which can be accessed by visiting the Account (Upgrade/Invoices) tab, and tick the box to accept the terms, followed by the button below it. This action is irreversible! If you see the message "The API is currently enabled for this account" then this is not the problem.

Minimum requirements for Chronicle not met

The minimum requirements for Chronicle are Windows XP or higher, and the Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5. We do not set hardware requirements. Chronicle will not work on Windows 2000 or lower, and will not work in Mono on Linux or Mac OS X if you use a proxy (however, we can't guarantee it will work even if you don't use a proxy). A native Mac OS X version and iPhone version are in development.

You are using an old version of Chronicle

Sometimes, bugs slip by us into release builds and it is possible you are using one of these builds. Check to see if you are running the latest version.

Unable to reach the Basecamp servers

This is most likely due to a firewall, or a mistaken URL. Check your URL carefully, and if you continue to experience problems contact your network administrator.

There are no active projects

Chronicle's project list will only display active projects.  Archived, On Hold, etc, projects will not be shown, in order to keep the project list to a reasonable size.  Please confirm that the status is "Active" for the projects you want to work on with Chronicle.

None of these solves my problem!

If none of these solve your problem, feel free to contact us using the "Contact" page at http://getchronicle.com/Contact. Please do let us know you've gone through the steps in this troubleshooter so we don't ask you to go through them again.
